Welcome to the Land of Lola! Kinky Boots Star Billy Porter Is Broadway.com’s Latest Video Blogger

Step into a dream where glamour is extreme in the land of Lola. Billy Porter, who plays outrageous London drag queen Lola and her male counterpart Simon in Broadway’s Kinky Boots, is our newest backstage video blogger. Porter is set to capture all the fun, glamour and behind-the–scenes fabulousness of the new Cyndi Lauper/Harvey Fierstein musical in his new video series: Land of Lola: Backstage at Kinky Boots with Billy Porter.

Inspired by a true story and based on the 2005 film of the same name, Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price (Stark Sands) who, after the sudden death of his father, is forced to step in and save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, an eccentric drag artist named Lola (Porter). Together, this improbable duo not only revitalizes the nearly bankrupt business, but help each other grow into the men their fathers always dreamed their sons would become. They also manage to transform an entire community through the power of acceptance.

Porter’s previous credits include Angels in America, Grease, Five Guys Named Moe, Smokey Joe’s Café, Dreamgirls, Topdog/Underdog and Miss Saigon. He has appeared in the films The Broken Hearts Club, Twisted and as Little Richard in Shake, Rattle and Roll: An American Love Story.

The first episode of Land of Lola: Backstage at Kinky Boots with Billy Porter premieres on March 25, with new episodes airing on Broadway.com every Monday. All aboard! Next stop: the Land of Lola.
